Damp Proofing

Damp is one of the most common defects affecting buildings today

It is essential that property owners address damp issues to maintain healthy living conditions and to ensure the problems do not cause further disturbance in the future. If left unchecked minor issues can lead to major repairs. There are many causes of dampness in buildings requiring specialist diagnosis to pinpoint the problems and specify the correct treatments.

Look no further! Bray Remedial Services are experts in identifying the defects and implementing long term solutions to protect your property for the future.
Following your enquiry an appointment will be made and Bray Remedial Services will send a qualified surveyor to your property to carry out an appraisal using visual and instrumental techniques to accurately diagnose the cause of the problems and propose the correct treatment.

What are the different forms of damp?

Rising dampRising damp 2

Rising damp is brought about when ground water is allowed to rise up a structure from the ground by capillary action. This generally manifests itself by the staining or peeling of decorations and the bubbling and deterioration of interior plasterwork. Rising damp can also cause timber decay to wood near to or in contact with the damp masonry.

Penetrating damp

Penetrating damp is caused by water moving latterly through a structure. This can be because a wall is underground and is therefore subject to groundwater ingress or the wall is at a higher level and subject to rainwater ingress.

Condensation problems are on the rise mainly due to modern building practices to reduce drafts and conserve heat. Condensation manifests itself as water droplets on cold surfaces e.g. windows, and if persistent can cause unsightly mould growth with health implications for respiratory problems.
